It all started as the unwillingness of my daughter, Allegra to allow me to grace a stage alone. Really, she was quite charming and knew all my moves and we all always had a great time. One day, Luna joined in when we were playing and we got a couple of songs and dances together and soon they were ALWAYS with me. That was all through that first summer and we put our first real show together for the Kensington Market Festival of Lights (as it was known then). We went on to play at Family Pride, Mariposa, Hillside Festival, among others, and street festivals and parties all over town.
Soon they got to an age where we needed to level up really; we wanted to, but there were SO many other experiences they wanted to have and then, of course, I became ill and for a long time our show stayed where it was. Just this once a year that we could throw together quickly just for familiarity, and in the interim I gathered new youngins to fill in as dancers; lots of really charming and talented performers have joined us on our stage as we hold the foundation for them. The show, itself, developed in other ways; but I'd always wanted to work more with The Happy Moon Crew....and when I say "work", I really mean "play" 🙂
THIS year, for the Kensington Market Winter Solstice Street Festival we can finally make some time and space to explore a little more creatively with our show, and we're looking forward to our best show yet! It's been a while since they've played with me and so they had to get re-acquainted with the four stages of jennielea! (as evidenced by Ruthie, age 11, who's worked with me more recently):
* she definitely stays on topic
* and if there are problems she talks about them
* she is someone who stands up for herself if needs to
* good at listening to other people’s ideas
We had fun; and we'll have even more when we have all of you to join us on
Thursday December 21st from 6-9pm!
If you, or anyone you know would like to join in as puppeteers or singer/dancers hit me up at jlroxon@circlesing.ca
